Las Vegas Builds 35,000 Hygiene Kits with Clean the World at The Venetian

Over 500 volunteers created much-needed hygiene kits to give to people in need in the Las Vegas community.  Kits assembled on October 1 at The Venetian Las Vegas will benefit a number of non-profit organizations in Las Vegas serving homeless populations in the area as well as military families.

The volunteer event is one of a series of hygiene kit builds at LVS’ properties in Macao, Singapore, Bethlehem and Las Vegas between July and December in 2016. The effort is part of LVS’s global corporate citizenship program, Sands Cares, and its ongoing partnership with Clean the World to support its mission of promoting good health and well-being around the globe through improved access to soap and hygiene education.

“We hand out 85 kits per day at our facility,” Becky Watson, Public Relations Coordinator at Salvation Army, said.  “We get veterans and families that come in for help and the hygiene kit is the first item they receive.  What Clean the World and Las Vegas Sands do for us is immeasurable. It allows us to reach out to those in need and continues our mission of helping as many as we can.”

Las Vegas is disproportionately impacted by homelessness. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reports that Las Vegas trails only New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Diego in the size of its homeless population.  With these grave statistics, LVS is committed to the long-term effort to address the issue of homelessness in Las Vegas.

“One by one, the homeless, single moms and dads come in every day,” said Bob David, Donor Relations Manager for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. “It’s a gift for them to receive a hygiene kit.  They are able to get cleaned up before going to bed.  The people we are able to help is because of this amazing partnership we’ve developed.”

Each hygiene kit includes soap collected from Clean the World’s hospitality partners, including LVS properties around the world, and then recycled through Clean the World’s soap sterilization and re-manufacturing process. Other amenities in the kit include shampoo, conditioner, a toothbrush and toothpaste.  Local organizations benefitting from the kits are: NPHYSalvation ArmyHELP of Southern NevadaThe Shade TreeSt. Jude’s RanchLas Vegas Rescue MissionUSO Las VegasCare Complex and WestCare Nevada.

“We are so fortunate and it is so imperative that we give back,” said Robin Hookway, Compliance Specialist with Las Vegas Sands. “Hygiene is a crucial aspect to everyone’s life and it’s imperative to help victims of life situations. This is all about community and it’s just so beautiful to see Team Members making such a difference together as a team.”
