Charity Fund Fun Walk with Sands China Ltd.

A total of 35 associations and 350 participants were invited to the first-ever IC2 Charity Fund Fun Walk, organized by Sands China Ltd. (SCL) and Macau IC2, which stands for “I CAN TOO,” Association in May. Children with special needs, their family members and volunteers attended, including about 50 Sands China Care Ambassadors who helped support the event.

The charity walk was organized by a group of IC2 members with intellectual disabilities, aiming to raise awareness of the well-being of people with intellectual disabilities and to promote green travel. It was also held to encourage more social interactions between the disabled and the able-bodied, in order to foster a more harmonious living environment. The entry fee was about $6 (MOP 50) per person, and all funds raised from the event will be used to support the association’s operating expenses. Starting at The Venetian® Macao, the walk follows a route that includes Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança and the Avenida da Praia wetland in Taipa before finishing back at The Venetian Macao.

“I am very grateful for the recognition and encouragement given to IC2, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sands China; our parent organization, the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau; the supporting entities; sponsors; and our friends and relatives for their support and generosity,” Antonio Luis Leong, president of Macau IC2 Association, said. “It’s more blessed to give than to receive, and we hope that all sectors of the community will continue to support and lead us to do a better job in the future.”

The first-of-its-kind association to be led by members with intellectual disabilities in Macao, Macau IC2 Association is a self-help and non-profit organization formed in 2016. IC2 offers regular training courses and organizes different kinds of events and visits for its members, providing a platform where they can develop and learn to express their feelings, needs and ideas.

“Sands China is proud to partner with Macau IC2 Association for this meaningful event,” Winnie Wong, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited, said. “Working with valuable home-grown organizations like IC2 is at the heart of our efforts to support the community, and we hope this event will bring even more awareness and understanding of the wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities.”

SCL considers initiatives like the IC2 Charity Fund Fun Walk as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement. It is one of the many ways the company helps inspire the Macao community through Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship program of its parent company Las Vegas Sands.
