Las Vegas Team Members Collect 30,000+ Food Items to Benefit Three Square

In honor of World Hunger Day on May 28, Sands ECO360° and Sands Cares partnered with local non-profit Three Square Food Bank to hold the second annual “Hunger is Not a Game” food drive, a month-long initiative for Team Members that concluded on Monday, June 8.

Last year, the resorts challenged the Team Members to collect 15,000 food items and surpassed the goal by collecting 15,171. This year, to commemorate the 16th anniversary of The Venetian, Team Members were challenged to collect 16,000 food items for the donation to Three Square – a goal they exceeded. Team Members collected 30,254 food items, a donation estimated to feed approximately 25,000 meals for those in need in the community.

To build excitement for the food drive effort, four teams of 12, consisting of Team Members of The Venetian, The Palazzo® Las Vegas, and Sands Expo, competed in a team exercise to conceptualize and build a piece of artwork with the cans collected around the theme of “The Venetian.”

The fun-filled event took place on Monday, June 8.  The four teams built different structures around The Venetian theme. The “Can-doliers” created a traditional Venetian theme, including a gondola, the Rialto Bridge, and the Campanile Tower. The “Holy CANnoli” created a guest bedroom. The “Life of Luxury” created a cabana and a pool deck. The “Gaming Operations” created a slot machine, poker chips, playing cards, the Rialto Bridge, and the Campanile Tower.

Two winning teams were announced for the competition based on the most creative art and the highest number of food items collected. The “Can-doliers” team won the award for the most creative art. More than 4,000 food items were used in the winning creation. The “Gaming Operations” team won the other award for bringing in more than 10,000 items – one-third of the total count. Judges for the competition included Senior Vice President of Development Michael Lentz, Vice President of Global Sustainability Katarina Tesarova, and Three Square Food Bank’s COO Dan Williams.

Thank you to all of our Team Members that helped us exceed our goal!
