Sands Cares Makes a $50,000 Donation to ‘Mondays Dark’

Sands Cares, the global corporate giving program of Las Vegas Sands Corp., The Venetian and The Palazzo, donated $50,000, $25,000 per year over the next two years, to help fund the operating costs of local philanthropic organization, Mondays Dark.  Twice a month, Mondays Dark gathers an eclectic cast of guests, including stars from Hollywood and the Las Vegas Strip, musical acts, comedians, athletes, and the occasional celebrity chef, for 90 minutes of conversation and entertainment.  Its mission is to raise $10,000 per performance for a rotating roster of Las Vegas charities. The variety show has become one of the hottest tickets in town and the list of charities waiting to partner with Mondays Dark continues to grow. Since 2013, the ongoing program has partnered with more than 50 local charities, raising more than $500,000.

“By helping to fund their operating costs, we can ensure that 100 percent of funds raised at each performance can go to local charities,” said Stephanie Stanton, director of Sands Cares.  “Through this donation, we want to help Mondays Dark run with virtually no expenses.  Not only does this donation support the Las Vegas arts community, it also a nonprofit that is ‘paying it forward’ by fundraising for other nonprofits.  This is a great example of an organization that has found a way to serve multiple audiences and is a win/win for everybody.”

Las Vegas Sands has a deep and longstanding commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate as well as integrating philanthropic work worldwide with the help of donations, Team Member volunteerism, and in-kind support.  The donation was presented by the cast of “BAZ – A Musical Mash Up.”  Sands Cares also donated the theater and stage equipment to help the organization create The Space, a Las Vegas community-driven charity-based arts complex, and home to Mondays Dark.

“When I moved to Vegas to open Rock of Ages, The Venetian was essentially my home for three years and I had the time of my life performing there and became great friends with many who work there,” said Mark Shunock, founder of Mondays Dark and The Space. “It’s an honor to have Sands Cares recognize Mondays Dark and the work we are doing in the community.  To have them on our team is something I don’t take lightly.  It means the world to me and I’m so grateful for their support.”
