Bethlehem and Las Vegas Give Back with School Supply Drive

Notebooks, pencils, clothing and accessories- costs that all families with school-aged children are faced with for the 2016-2017 school year. This fall, these families can expect to spend close to $700 on school supplies alone, according to The National Retail Federation. For some, the expenses are overwhelming. This August, Sands Bethlehem looked to ease the financial burden by hosting their 7th Annual School Supply Drive, benefitting pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students at Donegan Elementary School in Bethlehem, Pa.

“Everything helps,” said Susan Stachowski, Community Relations Coordinator at Sands Bethlehem. “We are happy to be part of something that can positively impact our youth.”

Team Members were encouraged to donate items during the months of July and August. By the end of the supply drive, 23 boxes with a combined weight of 400 pounds were filled with book bags, notebooks, art supplies and more.

“It was an incredible turnout,” said Stachowski. “We have such an amazing team.”

In Las Vegas, Sands Cares partnered with Communities in Schools for a second year to host a back-to-school supply drive at The VenetianThe Palazzo and Sands Expo. In addition to providing marketing support to create a new logo and collateral for the campaign, Team Members were able to collect enough school supplies to fill a 15 foot truck. In all, eight full-size school buses were filled with supplies that will be distributed to 54 schools throughout Nevada.
