Local Las Vegas Charity Benefits from The Venetian and The Palazzo

Gently used items from guest suites are now being donated to a local Las Vegas charity based on a recommendation by a Team Member at The Venetian and The Palazzo. The property’s sustainability team held a Green Ideas Challenge to encourage Team Members to provide environmentally friendly ideas to implement at the Integrated Resort. This effort falls in line with the company’s commitment to reduce its footprint on the planet through its global corporate sustainability program, Sands ECO360.

Lea De Los Santos, from housekeeping, won first place with her idea to give the gently used items a second life. In April, the property partnered with non-profit, Lighthouse Charities and has since donated more than 500 items including ice buckets, recycling bins, desk organizers, makeup mirrors, irons, hair dryers, and more that would have otherwise gone to waste. Lighthouse Charities assists misplaced refugee families through their resettling transition. The items donated will provide refugees and at-risk families help to get back on their feet.

The Green Ideas Challenge sourced various creative solutions to sustainability problems by the property’s own Team Members. Pranav Jampani, director of sustainability at The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo, was amazed with the growing enthusiasm of Team Members towards sustainability.  They are realizing that great change starts with small, simple actions but collectively, can have a huge exponential impact and a domino effect.

“To see our Team Member’s Green Ideas Challenge proposal become a reality is amazing. Our goal has always been to integrate waste into community outreach,” said Jampani. “By donating the gently used items from our guest suites to Lighthouse Charities, we are not only able to give them a second life but also provide support to refugees and at risk families to help them get back on their feet. We are able to make meaningful differences in our community by working in unison with our stakeholders.”
