Earlier this year, Sands Bethlehem continued its sustainable practices and humanitarian initiatives by teaming up with Donate Simple Local, an organization that unites businesses and non-profits in the Lehigh Valley. The process is simple. Non-profits like Victory House, an organization that houses local veterans, will “post” items they are in need of such as toilet paper, towels and clothing. In turn, business like Sands Bethlehem will see Victory House’s wish list and donate the items.
“We understand how challenging it can be for non-profit organizations to keep their shelves stocked with basic necessities,” said Susan Stachowski, Community Relations Coordinator at Sands Bethlehem. “Donate Simple Local makes the connection so easy. It is a win-win for both of us.”
The most popular items donated are hotel sheets, pillow cases, blankets, towels, clothing and small rolls of toilet paper. Donate Simple Local recently connected Sands Bethlehem with the YMCA’s “Perfect Fit for Working Women,” a program that provides professional attire to low-income women seeking out job opportunities in the area. The “Perfect Fit” project also provides free programs to women that help to empower their confidence and raise self-esteem levels.
“This effort is not only charitable, but also sustainable,” said Stachowski. “Why discard a perfectly acceptable uniform if someone else can use it? The non-profits in our area are doing such amazing things for our community. It’s crucial that we do our part as well.”
