Sands Builds a More Sustainable Future Through Responsible Energy Consumption

Since the 2010 inception of Sands ECO360, our corporate sustainability program, energy, water and waste have been the cornerstones of our conservation and sustainability strategies. Embracing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we have heightened our sense of purpose as a responsible company over the past decade, strategically dedicating resources toward energy efficiency, water conservation and responsible consumption to help build a healthier, more sustainable future.

Promoting responsible energy consumption and conservation is an integral part of our overall strategy. Through a combination of projects and programs designed to maximize both efficiency and responsible consumption, Sands ensures that our resorts are designed, built and operated with minimal environmental impact, accomplished in large part through both offsetting emissions and generating sustainable energy.

In 2019, we ramped up renewable energy efforts globally. Beginning in May of that year, The Venetian Resort Las Vegas and Sands Expo and Convention Center partnered with public utility company NV Energy to offset 100% of annual energy consumption moving forward through the use of Renewable Energy Certificate purchases (RECs). Marina Bay Sands in Singapore also began purchasing RECs from a local solar facility in 2019, as well. Further, the resort intends to increase their renewable energy purchases over time.

Our resorts also have on-site solar systems that generate clean energy from the outset. At The Londoner Resort in Macau, Sands China Ltd.’s (SCL) newest property, a 222-panel solar array and accompanying heat pump system completely eliminates the need for a natural gas boiler. The comprehensive renewable energy system will generate enough hot water for one of the property’s hotel towers, including its swimming pools, spas, kitchens and all 2,000 suites. This is the first solar thermal-heat pump hybrid energy plant in Macao’s Integrated Resort industry.

Through all our sustainability initiatives, driven by Sands ECO360, we support the UN SDGs. Read more about our impact in the latest Sands ECO360 Report.
