On December 14, Sands Cares surprised local organizations with checks presented in a special ceremony at The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium. Representatives from each organization were in attendance and the amount of each donation was revealed in “surprise” fashion as each organization flipped over the check to see the amount of the donation.
“This is inspiring to receive such a wonderful gift and I hope it will inspire others,” Michelle Beck, Chief Development Officer at Three Square Food Bank said. “We currently have a matching program where other corporations can match any of the gifts we receive. We have also designated one day where a donation can be triple matched. For every dollar, we can create three meals. So if we are able to triple match our donation from Sands, we will be able to create 243,000 meals!”
For the third year, Sands Cares has been asking Team Members to vote on where the money is donated. Sands Cares asked where to allocate $100,000 in funds among HELP of Southern Nevada, Safe Nest, Communities in Schools of Nevada, Three Square and U.S. Vets, Las Vegas. After more than 5,500 votes were cast in the month of November, Sands Cares made contributions to each of the charities based on the percentage of votes received. Each organization received a base amount of $10,000 and the remaining $50,000 was allocated based on team member votes.
“This is so awesome! Words can’t even describe what I’m feeling,” Kolanda Scott, Development and Activities Coordinator for U.S. Vets Las Vegas said. “The support we receive from The Venetian and The Palazzo means so much to our mission of making veterans self-sufficient. I’m so surprised that the employees chose to give us so much. I think veterans have touched everyone and now we can give them the help they need.”
