Sands China Care Ambassadors Visit Orbis’ New Flying Eye Hospital

The Orbis Flying Eye, the new state-of-the-art MD-10 officially launched in June in Los Angeles and made its maiden medical mission to Shenyang, China in September. While in China, one of its stops was to the Macau International Airport in mid-October. Around 60 Sands China Care Ambassadors visited the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital and received a guided tour of the world’s only ophthalmic teaching hospital. The upgraded aircraft is Orbis’ third generation flying eye hospital.

Sands China Ltd. is one of the sponsors of Orbis’ Third Generation Flying Eye Hospital Tour Macao, whose objective is to raise funds for sight-saving medical missions in mainland China and promoting Orbis’ effort of eliminating avoidable blindness in developing countries. The company’s sponsorship includes providing accommodations, meals, and Hong Kong-Macao ferry transportation for Orbis’ crew during their Macao tour. In addition, Sands China made a cash donation of MOP 50,000 to support Orbis’ efforts for the Macao launch event.

The Sands China Care Ambassador program aims to give Sands China staff an opportunity to serve the local community by helping to make Macao a better place to live, while contributing to its development. With over 1,500 volunteers from all Sands China properties – Sands Macao, The Venetian Macao, The Plaza Macao, Sands Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao – the Sands China Care Ambassadors have contributed more than 9,500 volunteer hours of community service in over 100 activities since the program began in August 2009.

Through a variety of community activity formats, memorable experiences are created for the volunteers and the beneficiaries, moving the hearts of all involved. Efforts include reaching out to communities through events like friendly competitions and creating arts and crafts with people with intellectual disabilities; acquiring enriching experiences like learning sign language and experiencing a silence workshop; delivering festive joy in visits to live-alone elderly during Chinese New Year; and enjoying happy outings that bring underprivileged families to various exhibitions at The Venetian Macao. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like these central to its commitment towards community outreach and service.
