Sands ESG Report Details Company’s Commitment to Sustainability

Sands’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report keys in on a number of important performance metrics to demonstrate the company’s commitment to being a good corporate citizen.

As detailed in the ESG report, one of our core principles is ensuring the long-term environmental health of our regions as sustainable tourism destinations. We pursue this goal by investing in programs that preserve natural resources, and by supporting education and awareness programs that promote minimizing impact on the environment. The Drop by Drop Project, for example, funds groups pursuing solutions to water quality issues, while an ongoing partnership with Green Our Planet supports innovative programs teaching communities how to grow and sustain hydroponic gardens.

We deliver on our overarching environmental commitments chiefly through Sands ECO360, our global sustainability program developed around three pillars: green buildings, environmentally responsible operations and green meetings and events. We strive for innovative building design and renovation, implementing environmental sound operations that reduce natural resource consumption and supporting our meetings clients in making their events more sustainable. This commitment starts at the top of the company, through large-scale financial investment, and extends to our Team Members – a recent initiative, “One Million Eco Actions,“ encouraged Team Members to take simple, yet impactful, steps to improve the environment. The initial goal was to complete one million documented “eco actions” by 2020 – a goal reached months in advance, with progress ongoing.

We also align our overall environmental goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, our core operations support SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation; and SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production. As detailed in the ESG Report, we pursue SDG 7 with the aim of doubling our rate of improvement in overall energy efficiency and we are substantially increasing water-use efficiency, as part of our support of SDG 6. We also are reducing our overall waste generation, primarily through prevention, as part of SDG 12.
