Sands Reaffirms Commitment to Responsible Gaming

During the American Gaming Association’s Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW), continuing through September 19, we reaffirm our company commitment – both to the public and to our Team Members – to encouraging responsible gaming, and to providing resources for anyone who may be experiencing a problem related to gambling. Those resources include standard industry protocols, such as prominent posting of the problem gambling helpline—800.522.4700—throughout the property, careful restriction of gaming-related marketing and advertising materials to age-appropriate venues and more.

We go beyond industry standards, though, in our dedication to promoting responsible gaming. Starting with providing all Team Members annual, comprehensive responsible gaming training, our practices extend to our Responsible Gaming Ambassador program. All Team Members learn to recognize the potential signs of a gambling-related problem, and to bring such concerns to a Responsible Gaming Ambassador.

Ambassadors go through intensive training led by university and gaming industry experts. They learn the science of problem gambling, and also engage in real-life roleplay scenarios, to learn to effectively interact with guests. They learn to listen for certain statements and watch for particular actions—such as guests making comments about the amount of money they are gambling, or gambling with money they can’t afford to lose—and are experts at holding private, discreet conversations, and providing the necessary helpful resources.

Our company commitment to encouraging responsible gaming practices does not end on September 19, and our dedication to providing resources for those experiencing a gambling-related problem will continue, as well. Through our industry-leading initiatives, including the Responsible Gaming Ambassador program, Sands maintains its focus on this critical issue.
