Sands Supports Water Stewardship Through The Drop by Drop Project
Through Sands ECO360, our global sustainability program, Sands continues to invest in sustainable development and operations at all our resorts. In pursuit of this mission, we align our operations with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. This goal not only aims to achieve adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, but also focuses on protecting water-related ecosystems, increasing water efficiency and improving water quality.
A new initiative by Sands and Clean the World Foundation, The Drop by Drop Project supports SDG 6 by investing in innovative water stewardship projects in the regions where we operate, including Macau, Singapore and Las Vegas.
For 2020, the Drop by Drop Project selected three projects to be inaugural participants:
- Nature-Based Solutions for Macao’s Coastal Waterways by University of St. Joseph Macao, Institute of Science and Environment
- River Plastic Collection System Development and Deployment by Seven Clean Seas
- Discover a Watershed and Project Wet Water by Get Outdoors Nevada
You can read more about the chosen programs here.
Sands ECO360 also carries out water stewardship inside our resorts around the world by upgrading water fixtures and systems, sourcing non-potable water and harvesting rainwater to reduce reliance on scarce freshwater, setting a goal to reduce water consumption by 3% per square foot by 2020.
