Sands Surpasses 2021-2025 Volunteerism Target A Year Early

With a goal of contributing 250,000 Team Member volunteer hours to local community organizations between 2021-2025, Sands aimed to inspire Team Members to new heights in volunteer participation.

Already a cornerstone in the company’s regions, Team Member volunteerism is one of the key attributes of Sands’ culture of service, exemplified by Sands China’s volunteer group, the Sands Cares Ambassadors; the thousands of annual volunteer hours contributed by Marina Bay Sands’ Team Members to the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, and global Team Member volunteer events such as the Sands Cares Global Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World and the Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build held in Las Vegas, Macao and Singapore.

Beyond these mainstay volunteer programs that enjoy tremendous Team Member participation, the global pandemic accelerated Team Member volunteerism in the beginning years after the target was set, as the company supported its communities in a variety of ways such as serving as testing and vaccination sites and contributing in-kind support for local relief initiatives.

While 250,000 service hours was still a stretch target, Team Members rose to the challenge. They put the company over the top with 33,130 volunteer hours contributed in 2024, bringing the total to 255,953 hours logged since 2021 and surpassing the mark a full year ahead of schedule.

“Our Team Members have always embraced volunteerism – their enthusiasm for giving their time, energy and talent is one of the threads that unites our regions across the globe,” Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs, said. “Our Sands Cares volunteer programs in each region enjoy tremendous participation, and it’s one of the reasons we are known for being a positive contributor to our communities – our people are engaged in serving important causes.”

While the 2025 ambition has been achieved, the service work hasn’t abated. Some of the key volunteer programs happening throughout this year include:

Global Volunteer Initiatives

Each year, Sands Team Members around the world unite on two global volunteerism events: the Sands Cares Global Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World and the Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build.

Since 2014, Sands Team Members have assembled more than 1 million hygiene kits. Builds are conducted in each region beginning in the fall, and Marina Bay Sands recently finished its event ahead of the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival. Sands China and Sands corporate will host events in the fourth quarter of this year. After the builds, kits are distributed by Clean the World’s affiliate, The WASH Foundation, to humanitarian partners in Sands’ regions.

The annual Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build addresses food insecurity in the company’s regions through build events held from March to June. In 2025, the build generated nearly 50,000 food and meal kits to aid hunger relief in Sands’ regions.

Signature Regional Programs

Team Member volunteerism is an integral part of Sands China’s Sands Shopping Carnival, one of Macao’s largest community events. At the sixth annual carnival held in July, Sands Cares Ambassadors filled various volunteer roles such as accompanying members of the Salvation Army Joy Family Integrated Service Centre at the carnival and working with members of the Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council at the carnival’s Little Master Chef Workshop.

In Macao, volunteerism is organized through the Sands Cares Ambassador program, which marked 16 years of community service this year. Since the group’s inception in 2009, it has grown to more than 3,600 members who had delivered 343,000 volunteer hours to more than 850 local community events and programs at the end of 2024.

In Singapore, the annual Sands for Singapore Charity Festival features multiple days of activities, live entertainment and events, all to benefit local charitable causes. Marina Bay Sands just completed this year’s festival Sept. 5-7 with more than 7,700 volunteer hours logged over eight weeks of volunteer initiatives leading up to and during the event. In 11 years, Team Members have contributed more than 46,000 volunteer hours as part of the festival.

While the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival comprises a large part of Marina Bay Sands’ volunteer activations, Team Members also contribute ongoing volunteer service to long-time partners such as The Food Bank Singapore and Care Corner Singapore. Team Members regularly volunteer at the food bank’s distribution center and serve as “befrienders” to seniors through Care Corner’s Neighbour Cares program.

In Las Vegas, Sands Cares, as well as the EmpowHER and Uni+ed Team Member resource groups, all host volunteer events for organizations such as The LGBTQ+ Center of Southern Nevada, Dress for Success Southern Nevada and Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. Earlier this year, the three groups joined forces to host a Community Involvement Fair with 14 nonprofit organizations to spur interest in supporting these organizations.

In each region, Sands Cares volunteer programs are aligned with the company’s priorities on providing hardship relief, advancing community partners, preserving local culture and heritage, and supporting education. To learn about the global Sands Cares community engagement program and other volunteer initiatives, read the company’s latest ESG report: https://www.sands.com/resources/reports/.
