Second Annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build Supports Hunger Relief in Local Communities

Now in its second year, the annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build complements the long-standing work by Sands’ properties to provide nutritious food to people in need. The global effort encompasses a series of builds in Sands’ regions around the world, in partnership with local food relief organizations.

In June, Marina Bay Sands hosted a build with more than 350 Team Members and partners to assemble 5,200 food kits for the resort’s long-term partner The Food Bank Singapore. Kits included rice, rolled oats, biscuits, condiments and instant beverages.

Marina Bay Sands has partnered with The Food Bank Singapore since 2016 to alleviate hunger in a variety of ways. In 2022, the resort provided ongoing food donations from catering operations, and Team Members also regularly volunteer to sort food donations and take inventory at The Food Bank Singapore’s warehouse.

In Macao, Sands China will complete a series of activations for the 2nd annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build from June until March 2024, working with social service organization Caritas Macau. In total, Sands Cares Ambassadors will assemble and distribute 3,000 food kits, totaling 21 tons, to community members, including elderly and disabled residents, economically disadvantaged families, and food bank recipients through Caritas Macau’s service centers.

Sands China kicked off its kit build series in June by delivering food kits to elderly residents at Caritas Macau’s Brilho da Vida Elderly Centre. Each kit contained 18 food items, including staples such as oil, rice, macaroni, canned food, biscuits and more. Sands China has supported Caritas Macau’s food relief efforts since 2022.

“Like the Sands Cares Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World, which we have been conducting since 2014, the annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build is another collaborative global Team Member volunteer effort that helps relieve hardship in our communities,” said Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs, who spearheads corporate responsibility initiatives at Sands. “We established this global initiative because we are firmly committed to addressing food insecurity as a pillar of our Sands Cares work, as well as through initiatives at our properties to repurpose surplus food for people in need.”

The Sands Cares Food Kit Build addresses Sands Cares’ focus on hardship relief, and food insecurity is a primary focus for the company’s hardship relief efforts in its regions around the world.
