Summit 18: Faces of Collaboration – Alex Davis

Alex Davis moved to Las Vegas in 2014 from Ohio, where he obtained his Bachelors & Masters degrees in Media & Communication from Bowling Green State University. Starting his radio career at the age of 18, Davis is now the night jock for 98.5 KLUC every weekday evening. An avid sneaker collector and music lover, Davis has made a name for himself within the Vegas hip-hop community and ventures into the music scene in hopes of finding new talent to support. He works closely with Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and runs a school supplies drive every summer called ‘Backpacks 4 Class Acts.’ Davis is also an animal lover and huge supporter of the Animal Foundation and Nevada SPCA. Davis has also partnered with Southern Nevada Health District, building the Break Down Rise Up school tour for Clark County School District, in which stops at area high schools break down the myths of vaping, hookahs, and e-cigarettes.

What is your role in the development of The Plan?

Not sure that I have a role as in title or position, but have been working with NPHY for the past few years on various projects. Whether it has been school supplies drives, the annual bowling tournament they host or even just brainstorming ideas, I have done my best to stay in tune with what is going on and how I can help in any and every way possible no matter how small or big. One thing my wife Janelle and I always try to do is whenever we are doing our spring cleaning activities, instead of taking all of the items to a thrift store, we take it all to NPHY. You never know who needs what and how useful something can be to someone.

Why is it important for you to join The Movement?

It is important for me and everyone else to join The Movement because homelessness in general is a problem, let alone youth homelessness. As I approach becoming a parent myself in the next couple of months, I couldn’t fathom the idea of my son ever having to be without. However, for those that are without, they shouldn’t be. What I mean by that is that there are enough of us in this world that are ‘with’ and able minded/bodied to help those that don’t have. It takes a village! If we work together, no one should be without anything that they need.

What do you think is the most important element needed to end youth homelessness?

The most important element needed to end youth homelessness is COMMUNITY. The more that WE can come together as a unit to do what is necessary, the more efficiently youth homelessness can become something we no longer speak on.

What is your hope for youth homelessness?

My hope for youth homelessness is that it no longer exists. I know not everyone is blessed to have both parents, one parent or guardians, but with more people willing to do their part like NPHY has done, we should have no problem eliminating and preventing youth homelessness.
