Our commitment to the Planet is to preserve our natural resources, and promote sustainable business practices. Through Sands ECO360, our global sustainability program, we ensure each of our properties around the world is operated according to a set of global standards for ensuring sustainable business practices. As the company’s guiding light for environmental performance, Sands ECO360 has three foundational pillars: green buildings; environmentally responsible operations; and green meetings and events.
- Green Buildings: Sands designs, develops and operates our resorts with both high performance and sustainability in mind, a commitment that continues to be recognized by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), one of the world’s leading sustainability rating systems for green buildings. Five separate Sands buildings are LEED rated, including our most recent additions, the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, the first Asia-Pacific venue to achieve LEED Platinum status; and The Parisian Macao, Macao’s first LEED Silver-designated structure.
- Environmentally Responsible Operations: Just as important as maintaining green buildings is our dedication to operating our business as a whole according to the highest sustainability standards. We align with internationally recognized environmental programs to help guide our efforts, including the United Nations Sustainability Goals; and the Science Based Targets Initiative, through which we recently committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at our resorts by 17.5% by the year 2025.
- Green Meetings and Events: We work with our clients to transform their meetings and events into environmentally responsible events. From seemingly small steps like offering a convention lanyard trade-in program, where convention attendees can donate their credentials to be reused for future events, to large initiatives such as smart monitoring systems that allow us remotely monitor energy usage in meeting rooms not currently in use, Sands is as dedicated to helping our meeting clients achieve environmental sustainability goals as we are to ensuring our resorts as a whole operate according to the highest environmental standards.
